Arthritis Q&A: Understanding Different Types Of Arthritis
* What exactly is arthritis?

Arthritis is a group of conditions that affect the health of the bone joints in the body. A painful inflammation of a joint or joints usually produces heat and redness.

The condition can be brought about by nerve impairment, increased or decreased function of the endocrine glands or degeneration due to age.

* What are the symptoms of arthritis?

The symptoms of arthritis include pain and limited function of joints. The inflammation in the joints is characterized by stiffness of the joint, swelling, redness and warm. Tenderness of the inflamed joints can be present.

The many forms of arthritis can involve symptoms affecting various organs of the body that do not directly involve the joints. Symptoms in some patients can also include non-specific fever, weight loss, fatigue and feeling unwell.

* Are there different kinds of arthritis?

Yes, there are different types of arthritis. These include the following:

• fibromyalgia
• infectious arthritis
• osteoarthritis
• polymyalgia rheumatica
• lupus, Lyme disease
• carpal tunnel syndrome
• childhood arthritis

Other common types of arthritis include cervical arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, lumbosacral arthritis, osteonecrosis, osteoporosis, psoriatic arthritis, and others.

* What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis caused by the breakdown of cartilage. Bits of cartilage may break off and cause pain and swelling in the joints between bones.

Osteoarthritis is a disease that affects joints in the body. It can involve any joint, but usually concerns hands and weight-bearing joints such as hips, knees, feet and spine.

* What is rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. Normally, the cells called antibodies being produced by the body’s immune system, attack the foreign substances such as bacteria and viruses. With autoimmune diseases, the immune system mistakes the person’s own tissue as foreign and attacks it.

With rheumatoid arthritis, the antibodies attack the membranes around the joints that cause swelling, pain and stiffness. In some cases, rheumatoid arthritis can cause deformity.

Rheumatoid arthritis also causes inflammation of the sheaths around the tendons, the one that join muscles to bones.

* What is juvenile rheumatoid arthritis?

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is the type of arthritis that causes joint inflammation and stiffness for more than six weeks in a child of sixteen years of age or less.

There are three types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, the polyarticular, pauciarticular and systematic. Polyarticular involves more than five joints and may be associated with a low-grade fever. The pauciarticular involves fewer joints and the systematic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis can affect the entire body.

* Is arthritis hereditary?

There have been studies that are concentrated on finding the causes of arthritis. These studies show that a genetic component can affect in the arthritis symptoms. Some types of arthritis have a strong link with genetics. These are arthritis in the spine and gouty arthritis. The others have a weak link in genetics.

On the other hand, the study explains that arthritis attacks more in older people. However, patients commonly get arthritis in several ways. Doctors have implied that a hereditary issue has a lesser percentage of risk when it comes to triggering arthritis.

Most causes of arthritis include things like sports injuries, old age, joint overuse, and other personal risks.

Anti-Aging Treatments

Most people want to live a healthy life. There are various factors which help in keeping our body healthy to live a long life. The vital factors which are essential for the anti-aging process are caloric restriction, nutritional supplements, diet and water. Of them, the only method which could really delay aging is caloric restriction.

Caloric restriction reveals about the intake of diet which has low caloric content with adequate nutrients. Recently, researchers have found out, small molecule activators called sirtuins which have the capability to perform calorie restriction. They are composed of plant polyphenosis such as resveratrol and fisetin.

Aging happens due to deficiency of nutrients like, vitamin B, A and C, folic acids, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, chromium and trace materials. In order to reduce the stomach acid gelatin capsules may be used, they improve the digestion process. Another important fact is that antioxidants which are present in the body are responsible for longevity of life. So intake of foods rich in antioxidants will help us in improving the life span and also improves our immune system.

There are few therapies offered to fight the aging factor. They are Hormonal therapy, Telomerase therapy, Herbal therapy.

Hormonal therapy is used to eliminate the aging factor which occurs due to hormone levels getting down with respect to the age. Human growth hormone is the famous method which is used to prevent premature aging. This method has several benefits; they increase the muscle mass, strengthen the immune system and so on. There are some setbacks too. It may cause sleeping disorders like nightmares and vivid dreams.

Shortening of telomere won't lead us to mortality. There are neurons and nerve cells present in our body. These cells are not affected by the telomere shortening. But it will be really helpful in taking the immune system cells and arterial epithelial cells.

Most commonly used anti aging herbs are; Ginseng, Rodiole Rosea, Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Ashwagandha, grape seed extract. Each herb mentioned above have antioxidants present in them, which helps to make the immune system strong and healthy.

The antioxidants are also responsible removal of toxins from our body.

What Is It All About With The Bird Flu?
The humanity is always being challenged yearly. What good is a year if there has been no major threat to our humanity? It may be quite evil to say, but that’s reality. Every year, there are lots and lots of people who die from diseases, natural calamities or terrorist acts.

It is a quite a scare to consider that one day, it might be us who will be the next victims.

The current scare that is making officials all over the world S%$T their pants out is the H5N1 strain. The H5N1 is a strain of bird flu virus that has been found to be very deadly. It has been considered to be deadly because of the rate it has been transferring from one bird to the other.

The scaring thing about it is that once the birds show symptoms of the disease. They have only a few days to live. The virus also spreads rapidly, sometimes spreading the virus to other flocks in just a matter of days.

Another scary thing about it is that a flu virus tends to mutate. If it does mutate and joins with a human flu virus it can be considered deadly for our species. So far the people who have been affected did not contact the disease from other people. They got the disease because they were unhygienic in handling domesticated birds that are infected.

However, recent developments have now got more people scared. The evens in Turkey should be observed more carefully. This is because in the span of only a week, 15 people were infected. Some may think that the virus has now mutated.

If it has now mutated, we have bigger problems than Saddam Hussein. Currently we only have tamiflu to fight it with. Tamiflu is just an antiviral drug that prevents new virus from emerging out of the infected ones. Some experts even claim that Tamiflu does not help. If it does help, there is just nit enough to give to the whole world either.

The problem with the companies being hesitant to produce the tamiflu or any other vaccine for bird flu for that matter; is because they are afraid the threat becomes bust and they might waste a whole lot of money.

The H5N1 strain is really becoming the stuff only movie producers think about. It’s like the movie Outbreak. However, in real life the threat is bigger and we face a scarier situation when we just laugh about it. Thinking like it’s just Colonel Sander’s Big Joke.

The best thing we have to do is just remember to live a healthier and hygienic lifestyle. Because as always prevention has always been the best answer of humanity to any threat that looms.

Lemons for Asthma Attacks and Other Illnesses
Lemons, they are one of the best fruits to use if you are sick or have asthma. Learn why and how you need to use them if you have asthma

Most people shy away from lemons because they are sour. Or, they make lemon juice and then kill their beneficial effects by adding sugar. Well, here is what your are missing if you don't drink fresh natural lemon aid every morning.

For asthma, lemon juice is great because it,

It is antiseptic - kills germs that hide in your mucus
It destroys bad bacteria that lives in your mouth, stomach, and intestines
It helps to dissolve mucus so when you have a cold or cough you recover quicker. The combination of 8 oz of water and lemon greatly cuts into your thick mucus that builds up in your bronchial tubes.
Helps to cleanse your blood and clean blood makes your lung tisse healthier

Lemons are high in vitamin C and potassium. They also contain plenty of fiber and phytochemcials, which contain antioxidants many of which have not been studied.

Use only lemons that are yellow and don't have any signs of green. You can store lemons in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and they will last for up to 5-6 days. To use these lemons bring them out and let them come to room temperature.

If you have a lot of lemons, you can squeeze the juice and freeze them in ice trays for later use.

If you have acid reflux or ulcers use lemons with caution and use your common sense to decide how much juice to drink. With acid reflux or ulcers use DGL or Mastic gum to clear the H..pyloric bacteria.

Lemons also tend to thin the blood so if you are on drugs that thin the blood, avoid using a lot of lemon juice.

When you have asthma, you can use 3-4 lemons daily. You can use up to ten lemons per day without much problem when you are trying to resolve a health issue. What you can do for asthma is make a thermos drink where you squeeze 4-5 lemons into 32 oz or less of distilled water and drink this juice all day long. Just remember to rinse out your mouth with fresh water after you drink the lemon juice.

Continuing Education for Nurses
The following article relates not only to nurses but also to those aspiring to enter the noble profession of nursing. We hope you will get some insight into this field.
Although we have used the female reference for nurses throughout this article ("she", "her"), this is done purely for convenience and in no way reflects the gender status of nurses in today's society.

Most people assume that once a nurse has completed her education and has become registered, that is the "end" and that no more learning or education is required. This couldn't be further from the truth. There's more to nursing then just tending and looking after patients.

It is highly critical that a nurse maintain and continue her ongoing education and is kept current on her profession. This is an integral part of maintaining her registration.

A nurse’s life in the 21st century is extremely fast paced. There are medical advances in precedures almost on a daily basis and it is essential that a nurse is kept abreast and is at the forefront of these improvements. This requires a high level of time management and dedication to improve oneself in addition to spending long hours in clinics and hospitals. Of course this is much easier said than done.

It is in the best interests of a good hospital to provide everything needed for nurses to continue their education. A good hospital will also more than likely pay for the education of their nurses. A lack of funds should not be a deterrent to a nurse continuing her education.

Many nurses regularly subscribe to nursing periodicals and magazines to keep up to date with their ongoing education.. Nurses are encouraged to go through the relavent published journals on a regular basis.

Of course let's not forget that just as important to success is the keeping of portfolios and timely documentation detailing all the training and education received throughout the nursing carreer. This written journal also serves as a method of organizing in an orderly manner, all the continuing education undertaken.

Admittedly, there exists a challenge with regards to access to this education for nurses, namely the expense, since nursing is still not considered to be among the better paid professions. This challenge to accessibility can perhaps be met by employers coming forward and funding the continuing education of registered nurses.

Please be sure to check out the many additional resources available on this topic online.

Cellulite - 4 Things About How to Get Rid of Cellulite

Cellulite in simple terms is huge chunks of fat deposit that are rendered immovable because of being trapped by fibrous tissues. Sedentary lifestyle and excess consumption fatty foods are the main reason behind formation of cellulite. It is more common in women because of differences in the fat structure and hormonal secretions.

This is also known as orange peel effect. Though it is not a life threatening condition it impacts the overall appearance of your body. Wearing the latest and trendy clothes becomes difficult and you gradually adjust your lifestyle accordingly. You can get rid of that orange peel effect very easily if you take it seriously and make some minor changes in your lifestyle.

It is quite easy to get a figure you always wanted to have but found difficult to achieve. Following are a few tips that may come in handy in getting rid of that ugly appearance.

  1. Eat more and more leafy vegetables. These are full of fibers which keep your digestion in perfect order which in turn works well for overall health.
  2. Drink lots of water. This is very helpful in flushing toxins out of your body. Usually 8 glasses are recommended but you can drink more if you want.
  3. Take exercise regularly. If you can participate in some physical activity like cardio vascular exercise, your body will not deposit fat in the first place.
  4. Try to squat on the floor whenever you can. It is a very simple way to mobilize fat deposits on your buttocks and thighs.

Breaking Into a Vegetable Juicing Diet

So you have your new juicer and are ready to make all the vegetable juicing recipes you can. Before you buy lots of different vegetables to juice, you need to know some basics that will help you break into a vegetable juicing diet.

You must integrate vegetable juice into your diet with baby steps. Juicing allows you to absorb more nutrients because the vegetable juice is already removed for the pulp for your intestines to take them in. However, not all vegetable juice can be digested that easily, especially the green leafy vegetable juice that is very rich. It is better to use vegetables that are easy to consume first, such as celery, zucchini, beets, carrots, and cucumbers.

Use recipes that are based on a combination of these. After a while, when there are no issues with digestion, slowly add in some dark greens like broccoli, lettuce and spinach. Eventually, you should have no problems with almost all vegetables.

It is not a good idea stick with the same few vegetable juicing recipes that you enjoy. Try out juicing recipes that include vegetables you may not like. Reduce the amount it calls for if you need to and use other fruits and vegetables you like to mask the taste. That way, you won't get too used to a narrow diet. Your body may have a difficult time adjusting to changes in your eating habits otherwise. You also insure that you are getting a many vitamins and minerals. I would suggest using your favorite juicing recipes every 3 days or so, and the other days to try new things.

Many people don't like to deal with the taste of vegetable juice because it is may be too rich in nutrients and too bitter. If it is bitter, then sweeten it a little! Add some carrots and beets. Alternatively, you can use apples, grapes and other fruits to give it an enjoyable taste. If it's too dense, dilute it with water.

Fish Oil benefits for Women
As any woman will testify, it's not easy being a woman; they are perhaps a mother or a grandmother, a career girl, or a soccer mom, and they are still not regarded as an equal among men. Possibly because they have more emotional strength and endurance, and smell much sweeter too, but what do I know. Anyway, despite the differences they may have compared to men, they still suffer from similar health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, and cancer. How these health problems are handled is up to the patient.

One way to handle them, is to wait until you begin to suffer from anyone of the above conditions, or indeed another condition, and then seek medical treatment. Quite possibly something a man might opt to do, but perhaps not a choice a women would make if they had hindsight on their side.

And because you are reading this article, hindsight happens to be on your side. You could indeed opt for something that could provide protection from the above mentioned medical conditions, before they make their initial appearance. And, as you have probably guessed, taking fish oil happens to be a choice you could make. Specific health benefits of fish oil for women include reduced PMS and menopause symptoms and reduced risk of breast cancer. Something all women, I'm sure would appreciate, perhaps other halves might join them in that appreciation too!

Every single 'leading' cause of death for a woman has two things in common. These are of course that they're degenerative and preventable. Ranking, I feel, is immaterial, as I don't believe that winning the competition for most degenerative disease isn't exactly something to be proud of. There is however something you can do to remedy these preventable diseases, and that is get more omega 3 fatty acids into your diet.

Research continually affirms the power of these tiny, natural nutrients. It confirms, that if you increase your omega 3 intake, you can help to prevent heart disease, cancer, depression, diabetes, memory loss, Alzheimer's, PMS, dry skin, and much more.

So, with all these benefits of fish oil for women, would you really decide not to take them for your health?

Placenta Stem Cells Successfully Treats Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurological disorder that produces symptoms such as confusion, decreased dexterity, insomnia, lack of motor coordination, memory loss, shaking, stiff muscles, and tremors. Stem cells are an undifferentiated group of cells, which, depending on their surrounding conditions, are capable of developing into other types of cells such as liver cells, kidney cells, brain cells, or any of the other 260 different types of cells that make up the human body.

When Dr. Mehmet Oz appeared on Oprah Winfrey's show in March 2009, he showed a section of the human brain where lines are not present in a person who has Parkinson's disease. He believes that stem cells could be placed in that area to regenerate the damaged brain. He predicted that the use of stem cells to treat Parkinson's disease would begin in about eight years. What he obviously does not realize is that a clinic in Mexico has been using placental stem cells derived from placenta (afterbirth) to successfully treat Parkinson's for 18 years! That's about how long actor Michael J. Fox (known in the early '80s as Alex P. Keaton on the hit show Family Ties) has been living with the illness.

Since Mr. Fox is an advocate for stem cell treatment, it surprises me that he hasn't taken advantage of treatments offered in other countries. Maybe he doesn't know the treatment is available. But it is, and ISCI founder Rita Alexander is a first-hand witness of the results seen in patients who have been treated for cancer, cerebral palsy, dermatomyositis, diabetes, hepatitis C, HIV, immune deficiency, kidney disorders, multiple sclerosis, migraines, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson's, retinitis pigmentosa, rheumatoid arthritis, spina bifida, and stroke. Rita has personally received several treatments to relieve the debilitating effect of rheumatoid arthritis.

James Devlin is a resident of Hawaii, but his paradise became a nightmare 15 years ago when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Unwilling to accept the reality of continual mental and physical decline, he sought answers around the world to stop the disease from taking over his brain and his life. His symptoms were the standard Parkinson's package including stiff muscles, decreased dexterity and coordination, insomnia, memory loss, confusion, and tremors in his arms which made it difficult for him to feed himself. Normal daily activities such as dressing, eating, and writing became increasingly challenging. James was prescribed a long list of medications to manage the increasing number of symptoms. Two and a half years ago, he found the road to recovery from PD at the International Stem Cell Institute (ISCI).

When Rita first met Mr. Devlin, he was very stiff and rigid, battling constant tremors as he made his way through the airport. When he returned to the clinic six months after his first placental stem cell treatment, his body was relaxed, he walked with ease, the excessive tremors were gone, and a big smile replaced the vacant facial expression he had just a few months before. After several additional stem cell treatments, James Devlin has been able to eliminate all Parkinson's medication and spends his days surfing in paradise. At 67 years old, he enjoys a 75 percent recovery.

Unfortunately, not everyone is physically and financially able to travel to Mexico. That is why Rita Alexander started ISCI in April 2008. She wishes many more people who are suffering with Parkinson's disease knew there were stem cell treatments that could change the course of their lives. ISCI assists with patient education, pre- and post-treatment support, travel logistics, and financial matters regarding treatment. Her goal is to help people access treatment that is already available and to bring the treatment to the U.S.

For more information about ISCI or to arrange a consultation or schedule an appointment, please visit http://www.iStemCelli.com or contactRita Alexander, Executive Director at International Stem Cell Institute, at 800-609-7795.
